In 1900, the elders of Wuppertal in Germany had the vision to construct a suspended monorail system that is still in use, obviously with upgrades from time to time.
I found it fascinating and most practical, while appreciating the vision and wisdom of the creators of the system that today carries around 80,000 passengers per day. For more detailed information see this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuppertal_Suspension_Railway
We are in need of such creative and foresighted people in Malta to come up with long-term solutions to our problem of limited space and ever expanding population plus visitors.
And not to be misunderstood, I am not advocating a replica of the Wuppertal suspended rail but hoping we can rise above all this politicising and in the best interest of our country look to the future and concentrate on practical, long-term solutions to one of our greatest problems – transportation.
