An innovative video game called Trace Effects.3D has been launched to help students aged 12 to 16 learn English and about American culture.

Through the game, students explore American culture through puzzles, activities and adventures in an interactive world. They embark on a virtual journey through the US, travelling to Kansas, New Orleans, the Grand Canyon, New York City, San Francisco and Washington, DC. It is also available in DVD format for teachers and learners.

The game forms part of an online resource centre on teaching and learning English and about US culture which has recently been launched by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at www.americanenglish.state.gov.

Besides offering free, high-quality, non-commercial English language learning resources directly to the public it also provides various engaging, up-to-date materials and resources for teachers’ professional development and strengthens the skills of English teachers and teacher trainers as well as to use with students in class. These include an expanded webinar series, distance education programmes and other interactive features
