ACN conference

Sr Hanan Youssef, from the congregation of the Good Shepherd (locally known as Bon Pastur) and Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Nigeria will be joining prominent Christian leaders who will be in Malta to address a two-day international conference on the state of religious freedom in the world today, organised by the Malta branch of the Pontifical charity Aid to the Church in Need – which is being held tomorrow and Tuesday at the Dolmen Hotel, Qawra.

Called ‘Can Christianity Survive Persecution?’ the conference will focus on the plight of the people of Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria and Nigeria.

Sr Hanan, based in Beirut, will be talking about the plight of refugees.

Kaigama is Archbishop of Jos in central Nigeria and president of the Nigerian Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

Tomorrow’s opening of the conference will be held at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, where a thanksgiving Mass will be concelebrated by ACN international president Cardinal Mauro Piacenza, together with visiting and local Church dignitaries.

After a walk of peace down Valletta’s streets, the conference will open at the hotel at 1.30pm.
