The Royal Ballet’s production of Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, an adaptation of Lewis Caroll’s story, will be screened at the Eden Cinemas today at 8.15pm.

A feast for the senses, Wheeldon’s ballet brings the famous story to life with a menagerie of colours, characters and compelling choreography, accompanied by Joby Talbot’s lively score.

The much-loved story has been reimagined with quirky designs by Bob Crowley as Alice falls through a rabbit hole into Wonderland, crosses a lake of tears, plays croquet with flamingos and attends a deranged tea party.

Alice, interpreted by British principal Lauren Cuthbertson, is joined by a host of familiar characters, including the jittery White Rabbit, the eccentric, tap-dancing Mad Hatter, the enigmatic Caterpillar and the ferocious Queen of Hearts.

Drawing upon a wealth of theatrical effects, including projection and puppetry, Crowley has created a world of enchantment from the grinning Cheshire Cat to the sinuous Caterpillar with his 16 legs of ballet dancers en pointe.
