CARUANA. On March 3, at Mater Dei Hospital, CATHERINE née Farrugia, widow of Gużi (Ta’ Sonu), aged 89, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She is deeply mourned by her daughter Anne Marie, grandson Paul Victor and his girlfriend Hayley, her sister Guża, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortege leaves Mater Dei Hospital today, Monday, March 5, at 2pm, for St Catherine’s parish church, Żurrieq, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3pm followed by interment at St Leonard Cemetery, Żurrieq. Lord, grant her eternal rest. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors at home. They also wish to thank all the staff at Dar Madre Margherita and the staff at the Casualty, Cardiac Medical and M7 departments at Mater Dei Hospital.

CAPTUR. On March 5, at Simblija Care Home, Naxxar, Perit MAURICE CAPTUR, a beloved husband and father, aged 91, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by his close family who were as loved by him, as he was loved by them. He is survived by his devoted wife Thelma, née Craig, their two children, Shirley and her husband Malcolm and Nick and his wife Fiona, his four grandchildren, Tim and his wife Faith, Debbie and her husband Andy, Tom and Millie, his niece Grace Frendo Azopardi and her children Karla and Kyle, as well as family and many good friends. The funeral cortège leaves Simblija Care Home, Naxxar, on Wednesday, March 7 at 1.45pm for the Divine Mercy Sanctuary, San Pawl tat-Tarġa, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2pm, followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest. The family would like to thank his wonderful carers Angela, Georgina and Mary, as well as the staff at Simblija Care Home for their care, dedication and attention. May he sleep in heavenly peace.

ELLUL. On March 3, at his residence, MICHAEL ELLUL A&CE, aged 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He is deeply mourned by his wife Pauline, his children Mario, Paul, Marisa and Sandra and their respective spouses, his beloved grandchildren Simon, Mariana, Francesca, Michael, Helena, Jessica and Matthew, his sisters and their families, his in-laws, other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, March 7 at St Helena’s Basilica, Birkirkara, at 8.30am, followed by interment at Lija cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MUSCAT. On February 28, Captain PAUL MUSCAT, passed away at the age of 59.
Funeral will be held at the Annunciation of Our Lady Parish Church, Tarxien, tomorrow, Wednesday, March 7 at 8.30am. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

VELLA. On March 4 at the Convent, Balzan, Sr JOSEPHINE, passed away peacefully. She leaves to mourn her loss the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, her nephews and nieces Sr Filippa, Annunziata, Frans, Damian, Antonia, Sr Josephine, Filippa, Maria, Polly and Manuel. Funeral Mass will take place at the Convent chapel tomorrow, Tuesday, March 6, at 2pm, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.

CASSAR TORREGGIANI – ALEXANDER. In loving memory of our beloved father, today the fourth anniversary of his demise. Sadly missed by his children Michael, Christine, Jackie, Philip, spouses, grandchildren, family and friends. GALEA CURMI – PAUL. Fond and grateful memories of a loving father, tomorrow the 11th anniversary of his passing away to a better life, joining our mother Josette forever. We miss you both greatly, but the love and faith you shared live on in the hearts of all whom you touched by your life. Their children and families. A Mass celebrating their life will be said tomorrow at 7pm at the chapel of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, Balzan.

Lenten sermons

The Gozo Diocese Professionals and Graduates Movement is inviting members of the professions and graduates (including couples who for one reason or other cannot attend elsewhere) for this year’s Lenten sermons.

The talks will be conducted by Fr Guardian Joe Buttigieg, OFM Cap. They will be held at St Augustine church, in Victoria, between today and next Friday, starting at 8pm.

Women’s Day activities

The Women’s Cancer Gozo Asso-ciation will be marking Woman’s Day with two events – a crafts sale at the Arkadia Commercial Centre, on Saturday, from 9am to 4pm, and an awareness walk from Victoria to Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary next Sunday.

Registration for the walk starts at 9.30am from near Pope John Paul 11 monument. The walk gets under way at 10am.

Transport will be available to take participants to St John Bosco Oratory where a snack will be offered to all.
