A mainstay on the local music scene for over two decades, rock band The Myth yesterday released its latest single, Beautiful.

As was already evident on its 2012 single Sadness in Your Eyes, the band has been moving away from the Britpop signature that shaped earlier releases such as How does it Feel and Dreams.

That song seemed to embrace a more American rock sound, even if The Myth insist they don’t really have a name for their sound, referring to it instead as simply the “new style”.

Beautiful is a softer number than its predecessor, balancing its rock edge with a driving pop beat at its core. Written late last year, the new single was recorded last January.

It presents a step further in The Myth’s musical journey, inspired and influenced as it is by imported elements as well as a local flavour. Beautiful is also The Myth’s first recording to feature drummer Jonathan Callus, who joined the band last year, replacing Mark Galea who had been with The Myth since its formation in 1990.
