A 16-year-old Romanian caught with a Sicilian friend during a drugs raid has been fined €500 for aggravated possession.

The teenager, who is not being named because he is a minor, was found in possession of some 50 grams of cannabis grass during the raid in Swieqi on Wednesday.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit fined him €500 after taking into consideration his age and early admission to the charges.

About three kilograms of cannabis grass, some 30 grams of what was suspected to be cocaine and cash were found during the raid on the house of Davide Sapienza, 34, from Swieqi.

In a statement, the police said seized items included a Ferrari and a Citroen.

Mr Sapienza denied trafficking cannabis and being in possession of the drug and cocaine denoting it was not for his exclusive use.

Lawyer Gianluca Caruana Curran told the magistrate his client would not request bail at this stage and he was remanded in custody.
