Fresh from his success at the World Cup shoot in Beijing, double trap shooter William Chetcuti is heading to Italy to compete in the Italian International Grand Prix, to be held in Umbria Verde this week.

Chetcuti, 26, and youngster Nathan Lee Xuereb will fly the Maltese flag in this high-level competition, organised by the Italian Shooting Federation and the Italian Olympic Committee.

Yesterday week, Chetcuti became the first Maltese shooter to gain an Olympic quota after winning the gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Beijing.

The Manikata-born shooter topped the leaderboard after hitting 44 clays in the final barrage for an overall score of 185. Chetcuti finished ahead of India’s Ronjan Sondhi and China’s Li Jun.

Last week, a group of target shooters from the Malta Shooting Sport Federation had a training camp in Bologna ahead of their participation in this year’s Liechtenstein GSSE.
