William Chetcuti accumulated 1,488 points in 2011 to finish the World Cup season in fifth place in Double Trap world rankings issued recently by the world body ISSF.
Chetcuti has just completed an outstanding season following a series of positive results in ISSF World Cup shoots besides other fine showings in World and European championships.
He also won the Malta Grand Prix at Bidnija in July.
However, the most satisfying result of the year was Chetcuti’s triumph at the Beijing World Cup in April which secured him a berth in next year’s Olympic Games in London.
The top seed in the 2011 Double Trap rankings is Jun Li, of China.
He totalled an impressive tally of 2,665 points.
Jun Li is followed by Andreas Loew (Germany), Vitaly Fokeev (Russia) and Peter Wilson (Britain). The latter finished just 10 points ahead of Chetcuti in the list. In all, 87 shooters were considered for ranking purposes in Double Trap.
Chetcuti, 26, is already in his build-up to next year’s World Cup series under the supervision of his coach Jimmy Bugeja.
The climax of Chetcuti’s career, however, will be next August 2 when he shoots at the Double Trap event in the London Games.
