The editorial ‘Scourge of political correctness’ (January 11) claims Charles Caruana Carabez’s article titled ‘The foibles of women’ was satirical and humorous. It was neither, unless you rely on the definition of satire as ridicule.

The Times of Malta contorts an argument that a sexist viewpoint could result from the newspaper’s editors being all male to mean that “Like Mr Caruana Carabez, the newspaper was wrong because the editor was unforgivably male”. As a professor of journalism, I am disappointed that the Times of Malta would stoop to such sexist sophistry.

Perhaps it should join the 21st  century by including more diversity among its editors. That might help to reduce the apparent blind spot the newspaper suffers from on issues of gender.
