John Pace will be retiring as president of the Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo (FSEG) after 30 years. This was announced during the annual general meeting held at the Gozo Ministry exhibition hall in Victoria. Members attending the meeting thanked Mr Pace and his wife Audrey for their many years of selfless care and work for the people of Gozo.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Pace spoke on the steady increase in the use of the Equipment Loans Service which enables families to take care of their frail elderly relatives in the comfort of their homes.
Mr Pace also thanked all those volunteers who had willingly assisted with the move of equipment and car boot stall goods from Għajnsielem to their new premises in Taċ-Ċawla, Victoria. The premises were provided by the Department for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing. Speaking on the financial situation of FSEG, Mr Pace said the future is secure due to the magnificent efforts of the fundraising team at the twice-monthly car boot sales in Victoria. Other fundraising is provided by the annual lunch organised by the Victoria Scout Group, the annual concert at the Kempinski Hotel organised by Sonja Sinclair Stevenson, anonymous donations and the Gozo Ministry’s NGO Assistance Scheme.
