Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana congratulated the Gozo Tourism Association on its achievements over the past year. Speaking during the association’s annual general meeting at Hotel ta’ Cenc & Spa in Sannat, the Minister gave special importance to the large number of employees directly involved in the tourism sector, along with the importance and the strong economic contribution of this sector for the island.

Dr Caruana expressed her desire to see more young people pursue a career in this important industry so that tourism in Gozo continues to strengthen. She encouraged all those involved in the tourism industry to continue to invest and strengthen the tourism product.

In his address, GTA chairman Paul Scicluna referred to the need for further improvement in all sections of connectivity between Malta and Gozo, while CEO Joe Muscat detailed the work and initiatives undertaken by the association during the past year, both locally and abroad. He said last year’s success was based on an increase of foreign tourists as well as that of domestic tourism. Mr Muscat said Gozo experienced 12 per cent increase in the number of visitors who stayed for more than a single night.

Mr Muscat also praised the initiatives taken by the Gozo Ministry in transforming Gozo into an all year round tourist destination, including this year’s creation of thematic festivals.

Malta Tourism Association CEO Paul Bugeja praised the excellent relations that existed between the GTA and MTA and augured that cooperation would continue in order to reinforce the successes over the coming years.

Two representatives from booking.com explained to those present at the meeting the benefits that Gozitan tourist operators can achieve from this popular website.
