During 2017, HSBC Malta’s 1,000+ employees have collected 50 large bags of plastic caps which will raise money in support of the Nirriċikla għall-Istrina (I recycle for l-Istrina) campaign organised by Greenpak Coop Society.

The bank facilitated the collection of the caps by placing a number of small and large collection containers in its bank branches, canteen and mess areas, its contact centre, IT department and its mailing room.

During the year, bank staff have also been depositing used batteries in two Batree containers provided by Greenpak. In addition, two Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) trolleys were used for staff to deposit redundant small waste electric and electronic equipment. To date, the trolleys have had to be emptied three times and over 100 items were collected by WEEE Malta.

Greenpak CEO Mario Schembri said: “Recycling caps and batteries has proven to be tricky. They are often so small they fall through the cracks of the recycling chain. Corporate action such as HSBC’s provides a collective boost to our national recycling efforts.”
