Hector Spiteri has been appointed Honorary Consul of Poland for Malta.

Mr Spiteri is a certified public accountant and holds a practising certificate in auditing. He is a Fellow Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants, a Fellow Member of the Malta Institute of Taxation and an honorary member of the Malta Institute of Management. He has held various positions with highly reputable organisations including financial institutions and companies listed on the Malta Stock Exchange, among others.

During his student days, Mr Spiteri admired what Lech Walesa was doing with Solidarnosc in Poland,  a country which he has been following since Cardinal Carol Woytila was elected Pope.

He later had the occasion through a company of which he was a shareholder and director to represent Lot Polish Airlines.

When the opportunity came to be considered as Consul, it was natural that Mr Spiteri would consider such a post. His interest and subsequent application was favourably considered.

A reception was held on April 26 at Villa Arrigo to commemorate the setting up of the Consulate in Birkirkara.
