“Misco has been offering temping services for the past six years. We have seen an increase in the demand for this service exponentially in the past two years mainly due to increased interest in such temporary positions,” says Lisa Schembri, human resources executive at Misco Malta.
Misco is currently on a drive to raise public awareness about this innovative concept of flexible employment. Temping solutions are sought by companies because of their need to fill employment gaps, replace employees on long-term leave such as maternity or injury leave, settle backlog work, employment prior to permanent recruitment for a particular role or when in need of employees for specific or specialised one-off projects or tenders.
Temping is also being seen as an opportunity by those people searching for a temporary role. Reasons may vary from finding a temporary fix in between jobs, wanting to get work exposure, the wish to gain experience in various companies or industries, or else as a means of gaining experience while studying.
“This increase in the demand for temping services may be attributed to the fact that employment trends in the market are changing. From a mentality of having a position for life, employees are now keener to experience different sectors and companies and then move on to a new challenge or experience,” added Ms Schembri.
