An intensive 24-hour training programme in industrial relations, spread over four days, was intended to improve the skills of permanent secretaries and senior heads in the public sector when dealing with trade union affairs and industrial relations issues and disputes.

The knowledge acquired and skills honed as a result of this customised training should lead to a more confident and proactive handling of industrial relations by management professionals in public administrative management.

The course is being delivered by a variety of academics, administrators and practitioners and has been organised by the Centre for Labour Studies at the University of Malta, in association with the Centre for Development, Research and Training of the Office of the Prime Minister.

Attending the launch were Mario Cutajar, principal permanent secretary and head of the Civil Service, Joyce Cassar, permanent secretary (Strategy and Implementation), OPM, and head of the CDRT, and Godfrey Baldacchino, chair of the CLS board.
