Economic Affairs Minister Chris Cardona has engaged new Labour MP Silvio Schembri as a full-time consultant.
Answering a question in Parliament by Nationalist MP Charlo’ Bonnici, Dr Cardona revealed that Mr Schembri has a salary of €33,853 per annum and a car allowance of €4,659.
The minister said that since March, two other full-time consultants were engaged by his ministry: Nadine Sant and David Borg. Their salaries and car allowances are similar to Mr Schembri’s.
Helen Borg has been engaged as a part-time consultant with the office of the Parliamentary Secretary Edward Zammit Lewis. She has a salary of €16,927.
Mr Bonnici asked similar questions to various ministers.
Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella said two consultants had been engaged by his ministry with a salary of €11,000 and €6,600 respectively.
Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said three consultants who form part of the Strategic and Priorities Unit have since March received €38,000 while eight others received €131,000. Four of these were engaged during the previous administration.
Mr Mizzi said there are three others whose contract became effective last month.
Interior Minister Emmanuel Mallia said his ministry had engaged three full-time and four part-time consultants. The annual salaries of the full-timers vary between €27,043 and €38,299 and those of the part-times between €13,500 and €19,000.
Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia said the four consultants appointed to his ministry in March had since received €43,800.
