Czech Republic 20
Malta 13

(6-3, 2-4, 8-3, 4-3)

Malta Under-17 national team were stopped from reaching the EU Nations Junior Women’s Cup final after going down to Czech Republic 20-13 in Odense, Denmark, yesterday.

Anthony Farrugia’s team had started the day with an impressive 10-8 win over Denmark.

That success over the Danes was the third in a row for the Maltese girls who finished top of the group with a perfect record after wins over England (13-10) and Wales (17-11) on Friday.

Against the Czech Republic side, the outcome was still in the balance at half-time as the Eastern Europeans led by a single goal – 8-7.

But the more aggressive Czech girls showed their supremacy in the third session which they won 8-3, paving the way for their victory and passage to the final.

Malta play their last match today when they figure in a play-off for third and fourth place.
