Tarxien Rainbows yesterday appointed Clive Mizzi as their new coach following the departure of Danilo Doncic.
Serbian coach Doncic agreed to step down from his post following a meeting with the club’s top brass earlier in the day. During the talks, the team’s recent performances were on the agenda and it was agreed that it would be better that the two parties go seperate ways.
The Rainbows moved quickly to hire a replacement and they reached an agreement with Mizzi who signed a one-year contract with an option for another season.
Mizzi, who had started pre-season with Sliema before stepping down of his post earlier this month, met the Tarxien players yesterday and is expected to lead his first training session this evening.
Among the players he will have at his disposal at Tarxien is midfielder Roderick Bajada who yesterday agreed to join the Rainbows from Sliema Wanderers.
Bajada, who last season was on loan at Valletta, signed a three-year contract.
Tarxien are still in search of their first points in the 2012/13 BOV Premier League following successive defeats to Valletta and Sliema Wanderers.
Mizzi will make his debut as Tarxien coach against Ħamrun Spartans on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Ħamrun are monitoring the situation of striker Terrence Scerri who suffered a knee injury during Friday’s Premier League match against Floriana.
The towering forward, who joined the Spartans on loan from Valletta, is expected to undergo an MRI scan in the coming days to discover the extent of the damage to his knee ligaments.
The Reds are also in talks with Mosta over defender Adrian Borg.
Negotiations are understood to be at an advanced stage and a deal is expected to be concluded before Friday’s transfer deadline.
