A festival of classical, sacred and romantic music starts on Tuesday.

The Violin and Friends International Music Festival organised by Volodymyr Baran brings together musicians from Malta and overseas.

The first and second concerts take place at the Cavalieri Hotel Foyer in St Julian’s, where Swiss pianist Katja Avdeeva will accompany violinist Baran in works by Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Schumann and Massenet.

On Thursday a courtyard soirèe will be held at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta. Oboist Anne Lofgren and cellist Anja Inge will present works by Joplin and Piazzolla, as well as folk songs from Sweden.

On Friday, Sine Macula choir and Novum Ensemble string ensemble will perform works by Albinoni, Vivaldi, Schubert, Charpentier and Caruana at St Augustine’s parish church, Valletta.

Another concert will take place at St Aloysius College auditorium, Birkirkara, on Saturday. Avdeeva (piano), Rihard Verins (French horn), Lofgren (English horn, oboe), Baran (violin) and Inge (cello) will perform classical works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Brahms.
