The construction of the parish church dedicated to Our Lady of Divine Grace in Żabbar commenced in the mid-17th century. Designed by Tumas Dingli this parish church is one of the more imposing and monumental parish churches built in Malta. The church is laid over a traditional Latin Cross plan along with a three-bay nave and side chapels.

The church has gone through a number of modifications and additions since the construction of the original structure. Of most importance is its façade as one of the best examples of Maltese baroque architecture. The multi-tiered façade with its twin western towers was constructed during the first half of the 18th century to the design of the local capo mastro Giovanni Bonavia. The convex form of the entrance vestibule with its array of free standing Corinthian columns reinforces the three-dimensional quality of the façade.

The twin towers are gracefully proportioned and comple-ment the dome that was constructed in the first half of the 20th century to the design of architect G. Pace.

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority scheduled the parish church as a Grade 1 monument on August 26 as per Government Notice 782.
