The eighth Finance Malta annual conference is expected to be the biggest ever with over 250 local and foreign delegates attending.

This year’s conference, being held on Thursday at the Hilton, is entitled Malta’s Financial Services Industry: Building on Success, Reaching New Horizons.

The line-up of distinguished foreign and local speakers includes Bryane Michael from Oxford University and Hong Kong University, who will discuss regulation and Malta as an international financial services centre; and MFSA chairman Joseph Bannister, who will talk about innovation through regulation.

Other distinguished speakers include Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech, Parliamentary Secretary José Herrera; Fabrice Demarigny, chairman of the European Capital Markets Institute in Brussels; and Douglas Goldstein, president of Profile Investment Services Ltd in Israel.

The topic of Islamic Finance and its relevance to Malta will be addressed by Sohail Zubairi, CEO of Dar Al Sharia, and this will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Reuben Buttigieg, president of the World Islamic Finance Institute. Bethell Codrington, chairman of the Malta Association of Retirement Scheme Practitioners, will speak about new opportunities for individuals and multinationals in the field of pensions, while other panels will discuss Malta’s capital market, and the topic of skilled human resources.

Three workshop panels will also present topical subjects such as funds and the new regulatory environment, insurance and the impact of Solvency II, and residency and citizenship.
