The resilience of Neptunes’ units emerged yesterday when they found their smooth bearing to annul Sirens’ three-goal headstart and take a commanding fourth session 11-4 lead trimmed by two goals before the match ended.

After conceding three early goals, the Reds’ players were summoned by coach Zoran Maslovar for a pep talk and some tactical adjustments and that ploy worked as the Balluta team started revving to wipe out the deficit before ends were changed.

By then, Sirens lost their rhythm and Neptunes profited as captain Niki Lanzon led his team’s cavalry charge with a hat-trick which Jeremy Abela emulated with some excellent conversions with the other goals coming from Jordan Camilleri and Miguel Zammit (two each) and Sean Gravina.

There was no stopping the Reds who also brought in youngster Ken Erdogan late on in the game.
