A Serbian man wanted for crimes against humanity was extradited to Croatia yesterday.

Eror Gojko, a 49-year-old construction worker who has been living in Gżira for 11 years and has family in Malta, is wanted for crimes, including the alleged killing of civilians, torture, kidnapping and deportation to concentration camps two decades ago.

He arrived at Malta International Airport in a prison van.

Mr Gojko was born in Vukovar, in eastern Croatia, but is of Serbian nationality.

He was arrested on the strength of a European Arrest Warrant issued by the authorities in Croatia and the court last week ruled that he could be extradited.

Mr Gojko had consented to the extradition.

The court did not go into the matter of his guilt or otherwise because what it had to consider was only the validity of the extradition request.

The warrant stated Mr Gojko was wanted on charges relating to the disappearance of at least 17 people.
