Parent and child gymnastics classes for children aged three to four are being held once weekly at Kirkop Sports Complex and Maria Regina College secondary school, Mosta, as part of the #OnTheMove winter programme.

After short warm-up and stretching exercises, the children, assisted by their parents and Sport Malta coaches Emily Scerri, Yasmine Abugrin and Jess Abdilla, learn the basics of gymnastics through a series of fun activities.

“They can experiment with simple challenges like running, jumping and balancing. The class is focused on having fun, and the fact that a parent is present gives them more confidence to execute the challenges,” said Natasha Cauchi, a senior coach at Sport Malta.

Parent and child swimming classes are also being held at St Ignatius College’s primary school, Siġġiewi.

Sport Malta’s winter programme, which includes a variety of educational sports disciplines, is sponsored by Kellogg’s, which has been supporting  Skolasport, as the programme was formerly known, since 1999.
