Sirens Ritter Sport recovered from a 5-1 deficit midway through the second session to edge Exiles Ferretti 8-7 in a bottom pool match from the Premier Division yesterday.

Aside of statistical purposes the result may not have mattered much for both sides except that Exiles did not relish finishing pointless in this pre-season competitive campaign, while Sirens did return to winning groove after having lost to Valletta in their last match.

Two relatively high-scoring middle sessions were sandwiched between almost arid first and last quarters.

The northerners, for whom centre Zach Mizzi grabbed a hat-trick, quashed that four-goal leeway when winning the third part of the game 4-1 thus nosing in front on 7-6 with almost two minutes left in the penultimate quarter.

After falling 8-6 behind early into the final session, Exiles, who were more wasteful than their opponents on extra-man sets, did not have enough steam to save the game, with their seventh conversion coming late.

Earlier, Marsascala Nutrition Empire, winners of the First Division competition, beat the ASA U-19 selection 14-10 in a non-competitive game.

After the match, Marsascala captain Joseph Cremona was presented with the trophy by Christine Saliba, representing competition sponsors Bank of Valletta.
