Giovanni Tedesco will be returning to Maltese football this summer after agreeing terms to coach his former club Floriana FC.

Tedesco was in charge of the Greens between April 2014 and May 2015 before leaving for Premier League rivals Birkirkara with whom he failed to leave his mark and got sacked after only five months in the job.

Tedesco had been Floriana FC president Riccardo Gaucci’s preferred candidate but for a time it looked as though discussions had stalled after the Italian was interviewed by Hibernians over their coaching post which eventually went to Mark Miller.

After his exit from Birkirkara last December, Tedesco was appointed coach of Palermo.

However, he did not last long on the hot seat of the Serie A club as they flirted with relegation before saving their status in the very last week of competition.

Last season, the Greens were under the helm of former Fio-rentina and Cagliari striker Luis Oliveira whose contract was not renewed.
