Local, artisanal, small-scale fishermen are invited to attend an event on April 21 at 8.30am at the Cottonera Resource Centre, Vittoriosa, during which training material in Maltese on safety at sea, technology on boats, fishing legislation, fish preservation and business skills will be presented.

The material has been compiled by the University of Malta, the University of the Aegean, Greece and Ege University, Turkey, following surveys conducted in 2015 with fishermen in these three countries to identify the most important issues for them.

The activities form part of the Erasmusplus project Sea of Skills (Enriching Fishers’ Knowledge, Expertise and Competencies), which is aimed at providing lifelong vocational, learning and training material to artisanal, small-scale fishermen in Malta, Greece and Turkey.

The University of Malta is represented in the project by Prof. Alan Deidun and Prof. Mark Anthony Falzon.

Anyone wishing to attend the event are invited to e-mail Prof. Deidun at alan.deidun@um.edu.mt.
