Tennis Club Kordin, in conjunction with the Malta Tennis Federation, will be hosting another edition of the San Michel International Ranking Under 18 tournament, starting this weekend.

This year the number of participants has exceeded the organisers’ expectations with 393 boys and 238 girls officially on the entry list.

This tournament is once again expected to present a very high level of competition with the highest-ranked boy being Germany’s Bastien Presuhn (202 in the world) and the highest-ranked in the girls’ event being Ksenia Domnina (Russia – 258th on the world list).

The tournament has attracted players from all over the world including countries as far as Kazakhstan and Canada.

Malta will be represented in the boys’ event by three promising youngsters – Miguel Galea, Leim Delicata and Ben Farrugia.

Francesca Curmi, who holds a ranking of 1,884, Emily Lightfoot, Krysta Dimech and Rachel Grech Flores will be the local representatives in the girls’ tournament.

The qualifying rounds get underway on Saturday and play from the main draw starts on Monday. The finals are scheduled for April 15.
