The treatment of karozzin horses in Valletta leaves much to be desired. Several of these poor animals are painfully thin and often have to stand for hours in blazing sunshine or rain, regardless of weather conditions.

Many times I have noticed the horses being whipped and often made to carry at least four well-upholstered tourists, the cabby driver as well as the karozzin itself up Great Siege Wharf. All this in the daily exit from Valletta with heavy traffic.

Much more should be done to ensure these horses are given better treatment, adequate food, water and shelter at risk of heavy fines if these measures are not met.

If owners of karozzin horses have no consideration for these beautiful creatures, it is indeed questionable if they should carry on being allowed to exploit these animals and put other people’s lives in danger in the process.
