Twelve horses booked their place in the final of the 2015 Tazza l-Kbira Championship for class Premier trotters.

The two semi-final races from these championships formed part of the 15th meeting of the season, which consisted of eight races all for trotters, and were held at the Marsa Racetrack yesterday.

Ten horses took part in the first class Premier semi-final.

A keen tussle between five trotters developed midway through the final straight.

It was Swedish Vejby Boom (Carl Caruana) which gained its first win of the year by a half length from Quesito d’Or (Frenċu Cassar) and Pat De Fontaine (Noel Baldacchino).

Qui Sait (Rodney Gatt), Quito De Neret (Michael Ellul) and Cloria Victis (Julian Farrugia) also progressed to the final.

Vejby Boom clocked an average time of 1.15.5” per kilometre.

French Quetzal De Brix (Charles Camilleri) led throughout the whole distance of the second semi-final.

This trotter sped past the post by a length’s lead from Pedro Vici (Johan Axisa) and Quebir De L’Aube (Clint Vassallo). Quorum Quick (Brian Zammit), High Stage (Marco Refalo) and Wee Catch Diamond (Julian Farrugia) were the other trotters to make it to the final.

Quetzal De Brix obtained its first win in Malta in an impressive average time of 1.14.9” per kilometre.

Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Sunday, starting at 1.45pm.
