The Vodafone Malta Foundation recently supported a fun walk in aid of Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, by providing eco-friendly bags to the participants and giving a €3,600 donation to the NGO.

The donation was part of a sum collected through Vodafone’s Employee Contribution Charity Scheme 2012. Dar tal-Providenza was one of three NGOs that received funds raised by employees towards charities of their choice. The walk, organised by the Ekoskola committee from St Ignatius College, Siġġiewi primary school, saw children and their families and friends walk six kilometres from the school to Dar tal-Providenza.

Mass was celebrated after the walk and a donation of €1,006 was made by the children.

John Spiteri, a Vodafone employee, who also took part in the walk, said: “Dar tal-Providenza, which has grown beyond recognition, is the leading provider of residential care for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. To continue functioning, it needs a lot of financial support and help.

“Through Vodafone Malta Foundation’s contribution, we can ensure vulnerable people in our society are given the care they deserve.”

Doreen Spiteri from Ekoskola said the children had prepared for the fun walk by preparing posters, online adverts and promotion through the media.

Ekoskola is a project focused on developing children into responsible citizens who can take care of their natural and social environment. Last year the school’s Ekoskola committee carried out a lot of work focused on the natural environment. This year it chose to shift its focus to voluntary work.
