Vodafone Malta has published its fourth Sustainability Report detailing its green efforts and its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The six sections also highlight the mobile operator’s responsible and ethical way of doing business, empowering customers, people management, and the charitable work of the Vodafone Malta Foundation.

Vodafone Malta is promoting heightened environment-friendly procedures, such as working in a paperless office, reuse and recycling of waste, e-billing and responsible disposal of electronic equipment waste.

For the second time, the report has been audited by PwC Malta and covers the period between April 2010 and March 2012. It focuses on how Vodafone acts sustainably internally and externally with its customers and main stakeholders.

“Vodafone is a responsible business and this is not reflected only in what we achieve but in the manner we achieve it,” chief executive Balesh Sharma said. “We try to make the lives of people better through our products and services. The same applies to our stakeholders, whom we engage with regularly.”

PwC Malta provided an independent limited assurance report focused on quantifiable sustainability information including investment in Vodafone Malta employees, key performance indicators of environmental performance by focusing specifically on energy consumption, water consumption, vehicle fleet, diesel consumption of vehicles, e-billing, recycling of different waste streams, business travel by air and paper consumption, with contributions to charitable organisations.

The report has been written for politicians, decision-makers, sustainability experts, journalists, NGOs, employees, customers and suppliers. Only a few hard copies are available for sustainability reasons. It is available on a microsite at www.vodafone.com.mt/sustainability.
