Nathan Lee Xuereb received a timely lift from the International Shooting Sport Federation yes-terday after it was revealed that his overall score in the World Cup Double Trap shoot in Cyprus is a new European junior record.

On Thursday, Xuereb narrowly missed out on a place in the final barrage at the Nicosia ranges after hitting 133 from 150 clays in the qualifying rounds. That left the 16-year-old just one point short of a top-six finish.

Yesterday, the Malta Shooting Sport Federation announced that, according to ISSF statistics, Xuereb’s score is a new European junior record since the intro-duction of the new competition rules.

It is interesting to note that, under the previous ISSF regu-lations, the European junior Double Trap record belonged to Xuereb’s team-mate William Chetcuti.

The Mellieħa shooter had obtained a score of 146 from 150 clays on his way to winning the 2004 European Junior Cham-pionships in Cyprus.
