You could just imagine when centuries ago the Mongolian warriors would settle for their daily meal after a long battle led by the mighty Kublai Khan cooking slivers of meat cut with their swords on upturned shields.

Now you can actually relive those gastronomical moments in the comfort of the uniquely designed Mongolian Barbecue Resturant in Wil©a Street, Paceville and Islet Promenade, Bugibba, part of an international chain with a Maltese twist to it.

Eating at the Mongolian Restaurant is a whole experience in itself. Some might find the concept slightly daunting at first, others just dig in to their heart's content, but what is certain is that all leave the place satisfied.

The concept is pretty simple. You grab a bowl; fill it with raw ingredients chosen from the display counter which include chicken, beef, lamb, seafood, vegetables, spices and sauces; pass your bowl on to the chef who will cook the food in front of you on a circular grill replicating the warrior shields with cooking utensils in the form of sword blades.

In a few moments you have a freshly cooked meal of your choice served to you on a bed of rice, noodles or couscous.

For those who find it hard to combine herbs with sauces and other ingredients the menu offers suggestions as to what ingredients are best mixed together for the ultimate barbecue taste.

And don't panic. You can refill your bowl as often as you like. The restaurant also caters for vegetarians and offers Tofu.

With a very reasonable priced menu, the Mongolian Restaurant is the ideal place to celebrate the Chinese New Year ona Tuesday, or any other day for that matter. However patrons on Tuesday will be given a free glass of Mongolian punch.

The Kublai Khan and his feared warriors would sit up in an elevated position sharing a communal meal grilled on a circular hot griddle.
