The Ramblers’ Association of Malta and the Friends of The Victoria Lines Trail have thanked Infrastructure Malta for laying out a pedestrian crossing at ‘Naxxar Gap’, almost at the top of the hill known as T’Alla u Ommu, l/o Naxxar, at the spot where the road was recently widened.
The two organisations said the pedestrian crossing is the first one intended primarily for use by hikers and they regarded it as an important link in the envisaged national trail along the 12-kilometre length of the Victoria Lines, from Fomm ir-Riħ in the west to Madliena in the east, that they are actively campaigning for.
Rambling along this stretch of the Lines on the side of the Triq il-Fortizza tal-Mosta is dangerous, as there is no sidewalk along this busy arterial road. For this reason, the Ramblers’ Association and the Friends of the Victoria Lines Trail have also made representations with Infrastructure Malta to ensure that, when this road is eventually rebuilt, a proper pedestrian path is included on the valley side behind the metal barriers to make it possible to walk safely along this stretch of the Victoria Lines.
