I am writing to ask for a little help. My father, Guglielmo Biffani, who died a few months ago, was a fighter pilot, a warrant officer, who was taken prisoner by the British. He spent five years and four months in British Prisoner of War (POW) camps, mostly in India, Bophal. I am now trying to reconstruct his professional life including, obviously, this period, and have approached an Italian publisher who has expressed considerable interest.

During this time in Bhopal (1941-1944), a certain Mr Micallef - the captain of the POW camp, responsible for prisoner control - and my father became friends. They both loved to hunt and one day Mr Micallef asked my father to go with him to an area full of deer, close to the camp. He gave him a rifle and they went!

My father was sorry to lose this friend and for me it could be fantastic to find somebody ably to help me. I would be very grateful to anybody who could help me.

I find this story very sweet, since it proves that even during the war people can respect each other and be friendly.

I would be most interested to receive any information or documentation that might in any way concern Mr Micallef, to have any details of my father's life as a prisoner, life in the camps, and, obviously, any photographs, to complete my story.
