United Nations goodwill ambassador for refugees Angelina Jolie travelled to Malta and met three people who risked everything to reach safety.

In the video uploaded on YouTube yesterday, the world-renowned actress recounts how refugees are crossing the Mediterranean in unprecedented numbers with more people than ever before risking their lives in search of safety.

In the last year, more than 3,400 people lost their lives attempting to cross the Mediterranean.

Fleeing the horrors of war, they are willing to risk everything for a chance of living in peace. Jolie was recently in Malta with her husband Brad Pitt shooting the film By The Sea.
