MERCIECA BALBI. On February 22, at St James Capua Hospital, MARIA ASSUNTA, née Theuma, of Sliema, widow of Joseph, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Maria and her husband Mario Calleja, and Tanya, her grandchildren, Graziella and her husband Malcolm Bray, Carlo and Krista, her in-laws, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leave St James Capua Hospital today at 2.15 p.m. for Stella Maris parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment in the family vault at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Ursuline Sisters, Sliema will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

PORTELLI. On February 21, at Mater Dei Hospital, ĠEMMA, née Schembri, widow of Paul, aged 75, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her son Martin and his wife Lottie, her daughter Cora and her partner Joe, her loving grandchildren Chris, Jodie, Yani and Kaya, her brothers Tancred of Canada, Tony of Australia, Lino and Lollie, her sisters Polly Anastasi, Jessie Pisani and Connie Azzopardi, her in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and numerous friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.15 p.m. for St Joseph parish church, Msida, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family chapel at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the staff at Mater Dei Hospital, especially the staff at the Renal Unit, ITU, M4 and CMW for their dedication and tender care.

ST JOHN. On February 21, JOSEPHINE of Paola, widow of Joseph, aged 99, passed away peacefully at St Vincent de Paul residence, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Edmond and his wife Joan, Claudette and her husband Alfred Cremona, Gilbert and his wife Marie, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul residence today at 2.15 p.m. for Christ the King parish church, Paola, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.45 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, would be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

Lenten reflections

Lenten reflections for staff, professionals and graduates will be held from March 17 to 19 at 7.30 p.m. at the University of Malta's chapel. The speaker will be Irish Salesian Fr Jack Finnegan, a lecturer in spirituality in Milltown Institute, Dublin, Ireland.

Football tournament

The committee of the St Catherine Band Club Youth Section in Żurrieq will hold a one-day football tournament on March 30 at the synthetic ground of St Benedict College in Kirkop. Applications can be collected from the band club's bar and are to be submitted by not later than March 27. Each team must consist of not more than eight players. Cana course in English

The Parish for English Speaking Catholics and the Cana Movement will be running a marriage preparation course in English at the Millennium chapel in Paceville. The course is mandatory for those who intend to have a Church wedding.

Monument to five victims

A monument in remembrance of the five adolescents who lost their life in Malta's most serious traffic accident, on October 1, 2005 in Triq Mdina, Żebbuġ, will be inaugurated after Mass at 10 a.m. at the Qrendi parish church tomorrow. The five adolescents were Marco Abdilla, Christian Camilleri, Fabio Magro, David Sacco and Osvaldo Vella.

Telephone service

Go customers who reside in Ċirkewwa, Marfa and Armier may have their telephone service temporarily disrupted from morning to late evening today in view of planned cable network maintenance.

Go said it will be doing its utmost to restore the service back to normal in the shortest time possible.

Prayer meeting

The Dun Alfred Prayer Group will hold its monthly meeting at the All Souls church in Merchants Street, Valletta on Friday at 10.45 a.m.
