AZZOPARDI. On August 19, at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, JOE of Rabat, aged 63, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Carmen, his beloved children Natalie and her husband Denis Fsadni, Antonella and her husband Pierre Ferrante and Deborah and her husband Adrian Mizzi, his dearest grandchildren Rebecca, Kurt and Christa, his brothers and sisters, Michael and Mona, Paul and Josephine, Maria and Peter Mifsud, Rita and Joe Mifsud, Raymond and Vicky and Therese and Edward Meilak, his in-laws Vincenza Vella, May and Charles Cassar, Joe and Doris Vella and Tessie Vella, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Sir Paul Boffa Hospital tomorrow at 3.30 p.m. for Ta' Ġieżu church, Rabat, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 4 p.m., followed by interment in the family vault at the Santa Margherita Cemetery, Rabat. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, and The Hospice Movement, Balzan, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

CASSAR. On August 20, FRANK, of Floriana, aged 84, returned to his Creator and Lord, comforted by the Most Holy Eucharist. Deeply missed by his wife Mary, née Ellul, his son Fr Joseph SJ, his daughter Mary Anne and her husband Dr Joseph Scicluna MD, his grand-children Francesco, Anthony, Michelle Marie and Gabrielle, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today, at 8.30am, for St Publius parish church, Floriana, where Mass praesente cadevere will be celebrated at 9 a.m. No flowers by request, but donations may be made in aid of Jesuit Refugee Service or St Publius parish church, Floriana.

MICALLEF EYNAUD. On August 20, CAROL ANNE aged 59, of Sliema, at her residence, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her beloved daughters Chantal and Amanda Aloisio, her mother Veronica Micallef Eynaud née Mattei, her sisters Cecily, Greta and her husband Tony Nicholl, her brother Philip and his wife Fiona née Tripp, her nieces and nephews Christian, Patricia, Nicola, Jean Paul, Simon, Elisa and Stephanie, other relatives and friends. Dearly missed by her beloved cats. Mass praesente cadavere will be said at the Balluta parish church, St Julians, on Saturday at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Engineering conference

The chairman and honorary secretary of the Malta Group of Professional Engineering Institutions, David Abela and Charles Cuschieri, recently returned from the annual European Chairmen Conference of the British Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

This year's conference was held at the Russel Hotel in London and was attended by representatives of the IET European Branches.

The one-day conference was followed by a weekend conference/workshop held at the IET Savoy Place premises where 350 delegates of the IET UK and worldwide branches attended.

The Malta Group of Professional Engineering Institutions is the local network office of three UK institutions: the Institution of Engineering and Technology - IET; the Institution of Mechanical Engineers - ImechE; and The Institution of Civil Engineers - ICE.

The Malta Group represents approximately 300 members among the three institutions and membership of the group is through membership of one of these institutions.

Augustinian lectures

The academic year of the Augustinian Institute will commence at the institute on Guardamangia Hill, Pietà, on September 19 at 6 p.m.

This year's topic is Christian Citizenship In St Paul And St Augustine. The inaugural session will be a concelebrated Mass presided over by Mgr Charles Cordina while President Eddie Fenech Adami will preside over the evening's activities.

Afterwards, Fr Salvino Caruana will give a short description of this year's series of lectures.

Seating in the hall is limited to 70. In order to ensure a place for the series of lectures (September-December 2008) one can send a cheque for €15 (covering the whole cost of the study unit) made out to Fr Caruana, and posted to the Augustinian Institute, PO Box 61, Msida PO MSD 1000.

Evening on Kilin

Poeżijaplus will be commemorating the late author Michael Spiteri, known as Kilin, at the Café Deux Baronnes near the Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta, on Monday at 7.30 p.m.

During the event Charles Xuereb will interview relatives of Kilin while Trevor Zahra, George Peresso and Marco Galea will talk about Kilin's contribution to Maltese literature.
