AQUILINA. On March 12, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANTHONY (Tony) of Rabat, aged 52, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Emma, née Vassallo, his children Walter and Sarah, his mother Violet and his father Sebastian, his brothers Joseph, Robert and Jeffrey, their wives, his mother-in-law Katie and his father-in-law Paul Vassallo, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmeline, Victor, Josephine, Dorothy and Ronnie, their spouses, nieces and nephews, numerous relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 3.30pm for Ta’ Ġiezu church, Rabat, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 4pm. The L’Isle Adam Band will afterwards accompany the cortège to the Santa Margherita Cemetery, Rabat, where interment takes place. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

DEMICOLI. On March 12, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARIO of Birkirkara, residing at St Julian’s, aged 61, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Marlene, his son John, his mother Michelina, his brother Alfred and his wife Doris, his sister Doris and her husband Philip Cilia, his in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8.30am for St Julian’s parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9am followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

RUSSO – Suddenly, on March 12 at Mater Dei Hospital, NICOLÒ, 56, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his irreparable loss his beloved wife Sandra, née Papagiorcopulo, his precious children Carla and Mark, his mother Cacia, wife of the late Onofrio Russo, his siblings Censina Russo and her husband Salvatore Toscano, Gaetana Russo, and Vincenzo Russo and his wife Saverina, his parents-in-law Neville and Phyllis Papagiorcopulo, his brother-in-law Kevin and his wife Leana, his dear niece Emily, his very dear nephews and nieces, Vincenzo and his wife Karen, Patrizia and her husband Riccardo, Cristian and his girlfriend Rebecca, and Alessia, other relatives, his colleagues at work, his numerous friends in Malta and Adrano (Catania). Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Lord, grant him the joy of your eternal presence.

VELLA. On March 11, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANNA, née Zammit, aged 57, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her beloved husband Tony, her cherished children Andrew and Nicole and their partners Nicola and Kenneth, her mother Mona, her sisters Vikki and her husband Paul Falzon, Patty and her husband Roger Calleja and Simone, her father-in-law Gianmari, her in-laws Raymond and his wife Anna, Jesmond and his wife Vanessa, her aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces, cousins and numerous other relatives and friends. Anna will always be remembered for her outstanding courage and for the special care and dedication shown towards her beloved pets. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30pm for St Catherine parish church, Żejtun, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2.30pm, followed by interment in the family vault at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery (entrance through back gate). No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. May she rest in peace.

WOOD. On March 12, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOYCE MURIEL, of St Paul’s Bay, aged 89, passed away peacefully. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Charles Wood, friends in Malta and family in the United Kingdom. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 11am for Burmarrad Cemetery, where a funeral service will be held at 11.30am, followed by interment. Donation to be sent to Inspire and MS. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Ventricular Septal Defect Society Organisation (Malta)

Founder Massimo Camilleri, who organised a Christmas campaign, declares that funds raised totalled €104,000. Grateful thanks to all those who contributed. The sum collected will be going to-wards children suffering from this disease.

Many know that the Phoenicians occupied Malta but what other information about them would one have?

On Tuesday, the heritage group Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar will be holding a talk by Anthony Frendo on ‘Phoenician and Punic Malta’.

The lecture will be held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel, Attard, at 6.30pm.
