Britain's Simon Archer, Olympic mixed doubles bronze medallist with Jo Goode in 2000, is quitting the international scene at the end of the year and next week's All England championships in Birmingham will be his last.

The 31-year-old hopes to go out on a high with another farewell appearance in the Commonwealth Games in March. Archer came back from a nine-month absence in 2001 after a serious knee injury to win a Commonwealth title at Manchester 2002.

Archer and Goode's bronze in Sydney was Britain's first Olympic badminton medal.
