A 61-year-old man, charged with stabbing his wife to death in a hospital bed, was yesterday granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm20,000 and on condition he resides at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Anthony Schembri was granted bail by Magistrate Antonio Mizzi who is presiding over the compilation of evidence against him. Mr Schembri is pleading not guilty to the murder of his 61-year-old wife Doris, a patient at the M4 ward, in September last year.

Police Inspector Chris Pullicino is prosecuting.

Lawyers Edward Gatt and Anglu Farrugia are representing Mr Schembri.
