Laser pointers are being sold as toys even though they are banned from the market.
The Technical Regulations Division (TRD) within the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) said they were banned because they pose a serious risk to consumers and may cause partial or even permanent blindness.
Any retailers having these products for sale are required to remove them with immediate effect and return them to their supplier, the division said, adding that importers should withdraw them with immediate effect.
Consumers were advised not to use these laser pointers and to return them to the place of purchase.
