Bayern Munich have made a new contract offer to Brazilian international midfielder Ze Roberto and are still hoping Chelsea's German defender Robert Huth will join them on a loan deal.

Ze Roberto is free to leave at the end of the season and with media reports from Spain suggesting an approach from Atletico Madrid, the Bavarians have acted to try and persuade him to stay.

"We've decided to offer him a one-year extension because we're hoping he'll be back in top form just before the World Cup," Bayern's director of football Uli Hoeness told Sport Bild magazine.

Bayern have been eyeing Huth as a replacement for Croatian centre back Robert Kovac, who said last month he was likely to leave the club.

Bayern's website reported negotiations over a full transfer broke down last week but the club remain keen on doing a deal with Chelsea.

"It depends whether Chelsea are prepared to loan him for a season," Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said. "If so, we'd definitely manage to come to an agreement with the player."

With the Huth situation unclear, Bayern will try to persuade Kovac to stay.

"We could see a surprise development," Hoeness said. "His departure would hit the squad's strength."

Bayern have a string of players out of contract at the end of the season.

Midfielder Mehmet Scholl recently signed a one-year extension, while French defender Bixente Lizarazu is also likely to be offered a new deal.

The futures of Sammy Kuffour, Thomas Linke and Alexander Zickler are undecided.
