Israeli midfielder Eyal Berkovic has left Portsmouth by mutual consent to return home, the Premier League club said on their website.

The 32-year-old international joined Portsmouth from Manchester City 12 months ago and played 28 matches for the club.

"Eyal Berkovic has decided to finish with football in England and has asked if he can return to Israel so his contract has therefore been cancelled," Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric said.

Berkovic also had spells with Southampton, West Ham, Scottish club Celtic and Blackburn Rovers.
