Hats off to the authorities for implementing and promoting recycling. I notice a lot of people from all age groups and walks of life using the service. I know many people who drive to such bring-in sites where four skips of different colours take different types of household refuse – glass, metal, plastic and paper.
Sadly it is often the case that these skips are filled to overflowing as can be seen in this photo of the four skips in Manwel Dimech Street, Sliema.
It would indeed be sad for someone who takes the initiative to recycle, separating his/her waste, driving all the way to the site, to find it in this state, only to have to drive back home and wait until those responsible empty the skips.
Despite being an eyesore and an attraction to vermin, this state of affairs positively puts people off recycling. Can something be done?
