PIETÀ HOTSPURS 1

Busuttil 23

BIRKIRKARA 2

Mifsud 69

Attard 70

Birkirkara had to come from behind to earn a 2-1 win against newly-promoted Pietà Hotspurs at the Tedesco Stadium and preserve their perfect start to the season.

In a sloppy first half, Pietà managed to break the deadlock from the first noteworthy action of the game.

Gabriel Mensah drove all the way on the left-hand side before sending an inviting cross inside the eighteen which dropped on Jan Busuttil’s feet.

The 19-year old had time to adjust the ball onto his right left before hitting a low drive which went past Kristijan Naumovski.

After the change of ends, Birkirkara levelled matters through Mifsud’s first goal for the Stripes in the Premier League. The Malta striker capitalised on a Marcelo’s cross from the left-hand side to fire home.

The Stripes turned the result to their favour just a minute later when an unmarked Cain Attard darted into the box to turn Marcelo’s corner into goal.

Birkirkara finished the game with 10 men after Emanuel Grech gave Attard his marching orders for time wasting.

Nonetheless, the Stripes held ground to seal a valuable win.

Marcelo, of Birkirkara, was voted BOV Player of the match.
