Blessed conrad of Offida died 700 years ago. Born in 1237, he joined the Franciscans in 1251. He proved himself an excellent preacher in various convents, among them Rivotorto, Sirolo, Forano, La Verna, and the Porziuncula, where he became a close friend of Brother Leo, a disciple of St Francis.
Blessed Conrad died at Bastia, near Assisi, on December 12, 1306. His remains are enshrined close to those of Blessed Giles of Assisi, in the Oratory of San Bernardino adjoining the church of San Francesco al Prato, run by the conventual Franciscans at Perugia. Pope Pius VII declared him Blessed in 1817.
