Book Champion Schools Awards were given to the top three students from Years 7 to 11 who took part in competitions held to mark World Book Day organised by the Literacy and Information Support Unit of the National Literacy Agency.

The following students came first in their respective years: Year 7 – Maya Danielle Bugeja from St Clare College Pembroke Secondary School; Year 8 – Timothy Cachia from St Clare College National Sport School; Year 9 – Rebecca Poulton from St Dorothy’s Senior School, Żebbuġ; Year 10 – Ann Cilia from Maria Reġina College Mosta Secondary School; and Year 11 – Venice Cassar from the Bishop Conservatory Secondary School, Victoria.

The awards, comprising a certificate and a book voucher, were presented to the winners at a ceremony held St Nicholas College Dingli Secondary School.

Awards were also presented to 47 State, Church and independent schools that actively promote books, reading and literacy.
